Understanding, preventing and repairing distresses in concrete pavements has always been challenging, but thanks to a new guide, the task will now be much easier.

Published by the CP Tech Center, the “Guide for Concrete Pavement Distress Assessments and Solutions” allows readers to match various distresses with effective solutions. The 470-page guide is divided into two major sections that cover full-depth concrete pavements and concrete overlays, as well as a third section that covers, “Field Evaluation and Laboratory Testing Procedures.”

The guide is written for agency personnel and consulting engineers responsible for managing concrete pavement assets. Contractors also may find the guide to be useful as a quick reference or for training. Each distress type in the guide includes useful information that includes a description, severity, causes, evaluation, treatment and repairs, and references.

The manual was developed as part of a Federal Highway Administration (FHWA) cooperative agreement to support more sustainable concrete pavement technical solutions. To view/download the guide as a PDF, click here. To download the guide as an e-pub, click here.
