The Illinois Chapter’s recent annual meeting drew an estimated 90 professionals and featured a solid line-up of transportation officials representing the Illinois DOT, the concrete pavement industry and the academic/research community. 

Dr. Michael Ayers, Illinois Chapter Executive Director, and Rick Sniegowski, Illinois Chapter Chairman, began the meeting with opening remarks. 

IL DOT Deputy Secretary Douglas House presented the status of the state’s capital improvement program and fielded questions regarding the new capital bill and future work projections. 

Jerry Voigt, ACPA President & CEO, presented an industry update, an overview of current initiatives and an overview of ACPA’s VISION2040 program. Jim Randolph, Executive Director, Illinois Ready Mix Concrete Association, presented on partnering, funding, executing a long-term plan and designing with concrete.

Technical presentations included:

  • The transition to the International Roughness Index, from research to the new specification by Dr. Bill Vavrik, VP and Principal Engineer of Applied Research Associates.
  • Enhancing concrete pavement durability and sustainability by Mark Chew, VP Sales & Marketing US and Canada, ICC Distribution Group. 
  • Electronic record keeping for construction inspection in Louisiana by Dr. Tyson Rupnow, Associate Director, Research, Louisiana Transportation Research Center.
  • Performance engineered mixes (PEM) by Dr. Hamed Sadati, Assistant Scientist IV, CP Tech Center.
