Performance engineered mixtures (PEMs) are gaining momentum and the attention of the concrete construction community, including owners and contractors.

For contractors and others interested in more information about PEM, The National Concrete Pavement Technology Center (CP Tech Center) has published “Performance Engineered Mixtures for Contractors,” an 8-page tech brief written by Peter Taylor.

The tech brief provides guidance on properties, processes and recommended tests for the laboratory and the field. It also includes detailed information about tests available to gauge workability, air void system, unit weight (density), strength development, and transport qualities .

The brief also cites recommended tests for quality control and agency acceptance by the agency involved. This publication was sponsored by the FHWA, the National Pooled Fund Study TPF-5(368), and the concrete industry. To view or download the document, click here.
