AM56 Spotlights Transportation Topics and Peer Discussions

What’s the outlook for U.S. highway programs and other surface transportation investment?  This is one of the questions transportation experts will be addressing at the upcoming ACPA Annual Meeting.

Keynote remarks begin on Wednesday, December 4, with our CPU Opening Plenary Session, from 3:30 p.m. to 5:00 p.m.  Speakers and topics include:

  • AASHTO’s Perspectives on the Future of the U.S. Highway Program – Jim Tyman, Executive Director; American Association of State Highway and Transportation Officials (invited) 
  • Federal Highway Administration Outlook – Brian Fouch, PE, Director, Office of Preconstruction, Construction, and Pavements, Federal Highway Administration, and  
  • The Value of Competition Between Industries: A Former DOT Secretary’s Perspective – Tom Smith, PE, Former Secretary, West Virginia Department of Transportation.

On Thursday, December 5, the 11th annual CPU program will continue after the ACPA distinguished service awards & recognition breakfast.  Participants can select from eight interesting and informative concurrent CPU technical sessions. Breakout sessions 1, 3, 5 & 7 form a contractor/construction track. Breakouts 2, 4, 6 & 8 form a track of general interest to all.

Golf Outing – 12:15 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. 
All guests are welcome to sign up for the golf outing at nearby English Turn Golf Club. Bus transportation will be provided.

Personal and Thrilling Airboat Swamp Tour – 1:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. 
All registered guests are invited to sign up for a high-speed airboat tour of the South Louisiana bayous and tidewater cypress swamp. Bus transportation will be provided.

Spirits and Cocktails Walking Tour – 5:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m.  
Enjoy signature New Orleans cocktails while hearing about ghosts and spirits said to still haunt the legendary Vieux Carre.  All cocktail samples are included in the ticket price.

ACPA Annual Meeting Special Events

Personal and Thrilling Airboat Swamp Tour – 1:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. 
All registered guests are invited to sign up for a high-speed airboat tour of the South Louisiana bayous and tidewater cypress swamp. During your 2-hour tour,  you’ll have opportunities to see  moss-draped cypress and tupelo-gum trees, along with alligators, snakes, turtles, egrets, herons and ibises, as well as the occasional hawk, owl or bald eagle. Bus transportation will be provided.

Spirits and Cocktails Walking Tour – 5:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m.  
Discover the grim and ghastly deeds of the old French Quarter, while enjoying drinks on this entertaining and “spirited” walking tour.  Enjoy signature New Orleans cocktails while hearing about ghosts and spirits said to still haunt the legendary Vieux Carre. You won’t want to miss tales of New Orleans-style voodoo and the history of the French Quarter, along with drinks at a few of the city’s most famous bars and restaurants. All cocktail samples are included in the ticket price.

Concrete Pavement University: A Closer Look

For more than a decade, one of the popular features of the ACPA Annual Meeting every year  has been “Concrete Pavement University” (CPU).  Our unique education, training, and tech transfer program lineup for the upcoming 56th Annual Meeting will once again include a content-rich series of keynote speeches and presentations.  Here’s a closer look:
