ACPA Presents Concrete Pavement Jointing Training

ACPA partnered with the Florida Chapter to present an hour-long training session for Florida DOT officials, engineers, consultants and others with an interest in quality concrete pavement construction.

The webinar focused on concrete pavement jointing, with Eric Ferrebee and Mark Snyder each presenting information to close to 60 professionals.

Eric covered topics such as why we joint concrete pavements, types of joints, joint spacing and aspect ratio, and joint layout for intersections. Mark covered dowel and tie-bar design considerations, construction details and joint construction consideration.

Technical resources and other information, including access to existing recorded webinars were also provided to attendees. This session and the resources offered were provided as a substitute for in-person workshops, which because of COVID-19, were no longer feasible.

At the end of the webinar Eric and Mark offered a Q&A session, which lasted close to 30 minutes. ACPA and the Florida Chapter are tentatively planning in-person training on the topic later this year.

SWCPA Provides Concrete Paving Quality Training

The Southwest Concrete Pavement Association (SWCPA), an ACPA affiliate, along with the FHWA and Caltrans, presented a two-day workshop this week.

The Caltrans/FHWA/Industry Workshop on “Quality in the Concrete Paving Process” is being held today and tomorrow (Feb. 12 – 13) at the Caltrans Southern Regional Lab, Fontana, CA.

Working together with SWCPA Executive Director Charles Stuart, Scott Miller is supporting the event with industry insights and expertise on-site. Scott has also been working to provide information/solutions on sustainability, resilience and recycling. As we reported in November, Charles has been working proactively with the FHWA, Caltrans and industry to provide ongoing training to highway officials.
