National Concrete Consortium’s Fall Meeting in the Motor City

Michigan DOT Director Paul Ajegba opened the Fall 2022 National Concrete Consortium (NC2) in Detroit yesterday. Hosted by the CP Tech Center, many of the top minds in the concrete pavement industry have gathered this week to discuss technical, policy, application, testing and technology issues and opportunities facing the industry. ACPA’s Laura O’Neill Kaumo, Tim Martin, Eric Ferrebee, and Larry Scofield are all in attendance to represent the Association and help facilitate valuable collaboration among experts. Ferrebee delivered a presentation on Achieving Sustainability with Concrete Pavements, continuing ACPA’s engagement with government officials, members and industry experts on sustainability and resilience topics. Highlighting Concrete’s LTPP Success at Arizona Roads and Streets

The Arizona Conference on Roads and Streets is being held this week in Tucson, Arizona. The conference is Arizona’s largest transportation event, with approximately 2000 attendees and 130 exhibitors. The conference is organized by the American Council of Engineering Companies (ACEC) and brings together industry leaders and staff from small, medium and large municipalities, counties, tribes, agencies, universities and consultants to share a commitment to bettering the communities they serve. ACPA’s Larry Scofield is presenting on The Results of the World’s Largest Concrete Pavement Experiment. The presentation discusses the Long-Term Pavement Performance (LTPP) Specific Pavement Study (SPS)-2 experiment that was constructed in fourteen states. Arizona’s SPS-2 is now 26 years old and will receive its first preservation activities this fall into early spring but will continue to be monitored by LTPP.

 

Florida Hosts Timely Conference on Resiliency in Road Planning

The Florida Concrete & Products Association held their annual PaveWise Concrete Conference last week, bringing together planners, engineers, contractors, owners and academics in Orlando for two days of meetings. With nearly 150 guests, the event served as a lively exchange of ideas, best practices and innovations. This year’s conference focused on incorporating resiliency into the road planning process. ACPA’s Gary Mitchell presented on Concrete Overlays for General Aviation Airports, which is an effective and efficient way to extend the life and increase the resilience of airfields.
