Caltrans chose concrete pavement when replacing California’s John “Chuck” Erreca Rest Area. ACPA talked to Caltrans representatives, who mentioned concrete’s long life, low maintenance, durability under heavy traffic, albedo, and even the material’s resistance to oil drips as reasons for selecting it.
