ACPA WY/CO Chapter Responds to Challenging Policy Changes with Proactive Airport Training
There have been substantial changes to FAA’s P-501 Cement Concrete Pavement specification in the last several years and additional changes to ASTM standards along the way. The Colorado/Wyoming Chapter has run into several issues on projects related to these changes and has begun offering training to airport consultants in an effort to address potential project challenges during the design process. During our virtual meeting with over 20 representatives from Jacobs’ aviation group, we covered concrete materials and mix designs, what to look for during construction inspection, and also reminded the designers of the long-term performance they should expect to see from their concrete pavement. There are several more sessions scheduled with additional consultants through the fall, and we expect to have a combination of virtual and in-person presentations depending on the sizes of the groups and the Covid-related guidance provided by the various companies.
