ACPA Hosts Press Conference Emphasizing Strengths of Concrete Pavement

On January 21, ACPA hosted a press conference as part of our World of Concrete presence. Our President & CEO, Laura O’Neill Kaumo, began the event by discussing where paving and infrastructure investment currently stands, anticipated future challenges, and how ACPA stands ready to address those challenges. In 2025, ACPA will encourage greater levels of competition, work to demonstrate how concrete pavement offers economic and environmental sustainability, and invest in the industry consortium RC3 to provide direct expertise to state highway agencies.

The press conference also featured an update from affiliate International Grooving & Grinding Association on research discussing the relationship between poor maintenance and the deterioration of highway systems.

ACPA’s Tech Team Leads Industry Training Courses at World of Concrete

ACPA hosted three industry courses at the 2025 World of Concrete event. The sessions included:

  • Constructing Smooth Concrete Pavements
  • Pavement Preservation & Repair
  • Pavement Joint Design & Construction

The Tech Team: Sarah Dalton, senior director of Engineering and Construction; Eric Ferrebee, senior director of Technical Services; Tim Martin, engineering services consultant; and Larry Scofield, director of Engineering & Research (IGGA), reported highly interactive sessions with engaged participants.

ACPA Promotes Sustainability and Competition in South Carolina

The South Carolina Count on Concrete conference was held this week in Columbia, SC, bringing together over 125 professionals from SC DOT, industry, and consultant organizations. ACPA’s Eric Ferrebee, senior director of Technical Services, helped kick things off by providing a presentation on Designing More Sustainable Pavements. Eric highlighted that sustainability requires robust materials competition to ensure the economic pillar of sustainability is strong. IGGA’s Nick Davis, director of Technical Services, delivered a presentation focusing on Optimized Pavement Surfaces and the safety and fuel economy they can provide. Overall, the conference featured case studies, innovations, and best practices from numerous ACPA members.

ACPA Shares New Case Study on Bus Rapid Transit

The new case study, “Bus Rapid Transit Depends on Concrete for Durability” highlights a 10-mile route between St. Paul and Woodbury, MN. As Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) is growing across the U.S., ACPA emphasizes that concrete pavement provides smooth travel lanes for buses.
