Deadline for Industry Comments on FAA Advisory Circular 150/5370-10J Today, Thursday, June 12
The FAA has released the updated draft of Advisory Circular (AC) 150/5370-10J, Standards for Specifying Construction of Airfields (Draft), for industry review and comment. ACPA was pleased to have Harold Muniz-Ruiz from the Federal Aviation Administration participate virtually during the Quality Construction Functional Committee Meeting at the Mid-Year Meeting to facilitate discussion with ACPA members on their comments and concerns.
Given the significant changes implemented in this version, ACPA urges a careful review of this document. Many of ACPA’s previous comments have already been incorporated into this version but there is still more to address. While our focus is heavily oriented towards P-501, we welcome comments on any section within the AC.

The next Tech Tuesday webinar, Improving Airfield Concrete Pavements Through the Airport Concrete Pavement Technology Program (ACPTP), will take place on Tuesday, June 17 at noon Central.
In 2018 Congress authorized funding for an applied research program to improve airfield concrete pavements through a cooperative agreement between the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) and concrete pavement industry. The cooperative agreement is being implemented by the Concrete Pavement Technology Center (CP Tech Center) housed at Iowa State University. This industry led, FAA funded program’s goal is implementing technologies through applied research that extends the life of airfield pavements to improve airfield reliability, efficiency, and safety. Ten projects are underway with several nearing completion to help meet these goals. This webinar will provide attendees with an update on the program. Representatives from the FAA and concrete pavement industry will present the FAA’s intent for this important program, program structure, and a status update including the goal and intended result of each project.

ACPA Discusses Type 1L Cements at Great Lakes Cement Promotion Council Summit
Sarah Dalton, ACPA’s Senior Director of Engineering and Construction, recently attended the Great Lakes Cement Promotion Council Summit in Columbus, Ohio and participated in a panel discussion focusing on the industry-wide implementation of Type 1L cements. The summit included ACPA Chapter affiliates and cement members from the region along with other concrete industry associations. The discussion featured a lively exchange of ideas addressing current implementation challenges and solutions, as well as forward-looking strategies for effectively handling new materials entering the concrete market.
