This premier three-day event brings together industry professionals to explore the latest best practices in the design, construction, and rehabilitation of concrete pavements for airport applications. The workshop is expected to feature technical subject matter experts from the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers’ Transportation Center, the Federal Aviation Administration Office of Airport Safety and Standards, the Air Force Civil Engineering Center, and more. Don’t miss this opportunity to participate in open discussions about interpreting and applying airport concrete pavement specifications used by the FAA P-501 and Unified Facilities Guide Specifications (UFGS) 32 13 14.13 specifications.

Tech Tuesday Webinar Highlights Strategies for Extending Concrete Pavement Life

Join us for the next Tech Tuesday webinar, Preservation, Repair, and Rehabilitation of Concrete Pavements, on September 8 at noon Central.

This webinar will explore the fundamentals of concrete pavement preservation and the benefits of proactive maintenance strategies. Participants will learn about common preservation and rehabilitation techniques, including:

  • Full-depth and partial-depth repairs
  • Dowel-bar retrofit
  • Diamond grinding
  • Joint sealing
  • Concrete overlays as a preservation strategy

FAA’s Airport Concrete Pavement Technology Program Releases New RFP for Research

The ACPTP has released a new Request for Proposals (RFP) focused on evaluating silicon-based, spray-applied surface treatments for airfield concrete pavements. The research will develop a performance-based framework for testing and qualifying these products, helping airport owners and the industry better assess their effectiveness and support broader implementation.

The resulting framework is expected to provide a consistent approach for evaluating surface treatments, support specification development, and reduce implementation risk as part of long-term pavement management strategies.

Proposals for ACPTP 2026-16: Silicon-based Surface Treatments for Airfield Concrete Pavement are due by 4:00 p.m. CT on October 6, 2026. Questions must be submitted to ACPTP@iastate.edu by October 1, 2026. View the complete RFP and proposal requirements on the ACPTP website.

Established in 2021 through a cooperative agreement between the FAA and the CP Tech Center, the ACPTP conducts applied research focused on extending pavement service life and improving the performance of the nation’s airfield infrastructure. ACPA played a key role in advocating for the program’s creation and continues to serve as a liaison to the ACPTP, helping represent industry interests and support the program’s ongoing success.

Introducing the ACPTP Webinar Series: Runway Insights

The Airport Concrete Pavement Technology Program (ACPTP) is pleased to launch Runway Insights, a new monthly webinar series highlighting the latest research, technologies, and practical recommendations developed through the ACPTP. Each month, Runway Insights will bring research findings directly to the engineers and professionals responsible for the design, construction, rehabilitation, and maintenance of concrete airfield pavements. Sessions will focus on practical, field-ready information that can help airports and industry partners improve pavement performance, extend service life, and make informed decisions. Webinars will be held monthly, generally on the third Thursday of each month at noon Central.

The inaugural Runway Insights webinar will feature Scott Murrell and Timothy Parsons of Applied Research Associates (ARA), who will present key findings and recommendations from the ACPTP research project, Best Practices for Rapid Repair, Rehabilitation and Reconstruction of Concrete Airport Pavements. Based on the report published in March 2026, this webinar will explore proven practices and recommendations for rapidly repairing, rehabilitating, and reconstructing concrete airfield pavements—helping airport owners and practitioners minimize disruptions while achieving durable, high-quality pavement performance.

ACPA Shares Airport Pavement Expertise at Four States Airport Conference

The Four States Airport Conference brought together nearly 400 airport representatives, aviation engineers, consultants, and industry professionals, providing an important opportunity for ACPA to address decisions that can have a significant impact on airport pavement performance and long-term costs.

Sarah Dalton represented ACPA at the conference alongside the Iowa Concrete Paving Association, the Missouri/Kansas Chapter of ACPA, and the Nebraska Concrete Paving Association. Sarah presented two technical sessions addressing key decisions in the planning, design, and construction of airport concrete pavements.

Best Practices for Airport Concrete Mixture Designs focused on moving beyond simply meeting specification requirements to develop mixtures that balance strength, durability, and constructability. Life Cycle Cost Analysis for Airports addressed how airports and their consultants can fairly evaluate pavement alternatives based on long-term costs rather than initial construction cost alone.

Together, the sessions provided practical guidance to help airport owners and engineers make better-informed decisions that can improve pavement performance, reduce long-term costs, and deliver greater value from infrastructure investments.
