One of the many instructional videos from the FHWA is called, “Real-Time Smoothness Sensor Installation.” This ~7 minute video describes the two sensor types made by Ames Engineering and GOMACO Corp., both ACPA member companies.

Real-time smoothness sensors are attached to slip form concrete paving equipment and allow contractors to assess pavement smoothness during construction.

The video presents step-by-step instructions for installing the sensors, while also presenting tips and general information about using the sonic (GOMACO) and laser (AMES) sensors and on-board computers. Click here to view the video.
