The MIT CSHub will host a webinar covering “Challenges and Opportunities of Using Environmental Product Declarations (EPDs) in Environmental Performance Comparisons of Concrete.”

Scheduled for Thursday, February 11th, the event will be held at 11 am (EST). The first of the CS Hub’s public webinars for 2021, this webinar will be presented jointly by Dr. Jeremy Gregory, CSHub Executive Director, and Hessam AzariJafari, postdoctoral associate.

The webinar will cover information existing in the current and past concrete EPDs, along with the challenges of using these documents for assessing the environmental embodied emissions of concrete mix designs. Recommendations and opportunities for improving the product category rules and framework development for comparative analysis of concrete embodied emissions will be provided to improve the decision-making process.

EPDs were originally developed as trusted and verified reporting mechanisms and were not intended for comparative assessments required to support procurement decisions, according to the CS Hub, which adds the comparison of EPD values for concrete and the associated confidence in the selecting a lower-impact alternative remains a challenge.

The webinar is free of charge, but registration is required. Click here for additional information and here to register.
