Award season is here, ACPA members! Submissions for ACPA’s Excellence in Concrete Pavement Awards are in, the judges are reviewing projects, and we expect to announce winners soon in preparation for our 35th Excellence in Paving Awards on December 5 in Phoenix, Arizona. This year, ACPA is honored to also announce that we’ve secured the services of Mark Walberg as this year’s emcee. Mark is best known as the host of hit tv shows like PBS’s Antique Road Show and Temptation Island. He has also hosted awards programs for the Associated General Contractors (AGC) for many years. You will find his bio below.

Also, nominations for the Distinguished Services Awards are now being accepted and include the following awards:

  • Hartmann-Hirschman-Egan Lifetime Achievement
  • Marlin J. Knutson Award for Technical Achievement
  • Outstanding Pavement Promotion
  • Lifetime Pavement Recognition (Airport)
  • Sustainable Practices Recognition

The winners will be recognized at the Distinguished Service Luncheon on December 5 at 12:00 pm. Nominations may be submitted online through Friday, September 20th by following this link.

Board nominations are still also being accepted, and this year I am seeking suggestions on strong candidates for the Presidential Award recipient. The Presidential Award is awarded at the President/CEO’s sole discretion and should include candidates who have had a strong hand in advocacy for the Association. Past awardees have included Congressman Frank Lucas (R-OK, 3rd), Jim Mack, Director, Market Development, Cemex, and the late former Chairman of the House Transportation and Infrastructure Committee Bud Shuster.

Lastly, Annual Meeting registration and the hotel room block are open. Get in early to get the favorable rates.

Television personality, Mark L. Walberg, has been a fixture of American television for decades. He is best known as the long-time host of Antiques Roadshow- PBS’ highest rated, prime time original program and is currently hosting the hit dating-reality show, “Temptation Island” where he has become the resident relationship expert. Walberg started his tv career as assistant of Dick Clark Productions and quickly moved in front of the camera as the announcer for the popular game show, Shop Til You Drop. He then hosted Burnt Toast, a sports magazine show for ESPN. It was there that the late Brandon Tartikoff noticed his work and executive produced the nationally syndicated The Mark Walberg Show. But Mark isn’t just a host. He’s equally as skilled as a gameshow contestant, having won a celebrity episode of Weakest Link playing for his charity, Goodwill SoCaL.

As a moderator, host, and speaker, Mark has worked in the corporate world for many years. As keynote speaker, Mark shares about the Power of Authentic Connection where he explains the importance of a connection to your authentic self, forming lasting connections with business associates and family, and tapping into the magic that is accessed by realizing we are all deeply connected on a universal level. Mark is proud to serve on the board of directors of WeSpark Cancer Support- an organization that provides services free of charge to people dealing with Cancer as well as their family members.
