As summer begins to wind down, Washington is anything but quiet. All eyes remain on the Senate as lawmakers work through the many moving pieces surrounding a continuing resolution (CR) to keep the federal government funded. Negotiations continue to evolve, with funding priorities, policy provisions, and timing all in play. The Senate is expected to approve a continuing resolution by the weekend, setting the stage to provide temporary funding while Congress continues work on full-year appropriations. The deadline is September 30 for both appropriations and IIJA authorizations. While a CR helps avoid a government shutdown and the stalling of infrastructure projects, it also creates uncertainty for agencies and the programs they administer, making it important for contractors to stay informed as the process continues. As always, ACPA will closely monitor developments and keep members updated on any impact to infrastructure funding.

While Capitol Hill is busy, so is ACPA.

Registration for the 2026 ACPA Annual Meeting is expected to open the week of August 17, and this year’s meeting will feature an expanded focus on issues impacting paving contractors. We’re looking forward to bringing together contractors, industry partners, and other ACPA supporting stakeholders for timely discussions on the policies, projects, and innovations shaping our industry.

We’re also excited to announce the inaugural Contractor Advisory Council Golf Scramble, taking place on Tuesday, December 1. This first-ever event will provide a great opportunity to connect with colleagues, strengthen industry relationships, and enjoy a little friendly competition before Annual Meeting activities begin. Be sure to watch for additional details and registration information in the coming weeks.

Before we head to Florida, don’t miss ACPA’s Airport Workshop, scheduled for October 27–29 in Tempe, Arizona. The Airport Workshop continues to be one of ACPA’s premier educational events, offering practical insights, technical discussions, and valuable networking opportunities for airport construction professionals. If you haven’t attended before, this is an excellent opportunity to connect with peers and gain practical knowledge you can take back to your projects.

As award season also continues, a quick reminder that nominations for the Excellence in Paving Awards have officially closed. Thank you to everyone who submitted projects showcasing innovation, craftsmanship, and quality in airport pavement construction. There’s still time, however, to recognize the individuals who have made a lasting impact on our industry. Nominations for ACPA’s Distinguished Service Awards remain open through the end of the month. If you know someone whose leadership, dedication, and contributions have helped advance the airport paving community, we encourage you to submit a nomination before the deadline. Recipients of the Excellence in Paving Awards and the Distinguished Service Awards will be recognized during the ACPA Annual Meeting on December 2 and Awards Gala on December 3. We look forward to celebrating the outstanding projects and remarkable individuals whose work continues to strengthen our industry.
