Legislation in both the U.S. House and U.S. Senate has been introduced to suspend the federal gas tax through the end of 2022. This legislation is misguided and would unravel the new bipartisan infrastructure law’s revenue base while not achieving the desired outcome: immediate price relief at the gas pump. It is critical that you urge your U.S. Senators and U.S. Representative to oppose this legislation. We cannot lose the momentum from the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law (BIL)! Click here to oppose this misguided legislation!

ACPA has signed on to two industry letters, one led by the Transportation Construction Coalition and the other by the American Highway Users Alliance, staunchly opposing proposals for a gas tax holiday. Cosigners on both letters urge opposition to a proposal that would do little to provide the average citizen relief at the pump but would do lasting damage to a Highway Trust Fund that provides critical financial backing for investment in our roadways and bridges. The historic BIL provides resources to rebuild American infrastructure for the 21st century and provide the short and long-term economic benefits that will make a real difference for American families, rather than temporary political gimmicks. The BIL will make important improvements to connect communities, prioritize resiliency, and facilitate economic growth and competitiveness. Disrupting the carefully negotiated revenue structure in the BIL would jeopardize these benefits.
