Last week, the U.S. Department of Transportation released its strategic plan for fiscal years 2022-2026, and ACPA applauds its strategic goals. With an emphasis on safety, economic strength and global competitiveness, equity, climate and sustainability, and transformation, the strategic plan outlines a future that ACPA and our members are enthusiastic about supporting. Concrete pavement is crucial in advancing safety, sustainability, equity, and other aspects of DOT’s plan. For example, when focusing on equity, concrete pavements create certainty for underserved communities; rigid and light-colored concrete pavements are less vulnerable to flood related damage on rural roads, enabling reliable access to emergency services, and reduce the strenuous heat urban environments often suffer from. What’s more, the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law offers a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to invest in infrastructure that will serve left-behind communities for decades to come.
