The ACPA Research, Technology & Innovation Functional Committee Web Meeting is scheduled for Nov 18, 2020 at 3:00 PM (CST).
For the upcoming meeting, the committee is planning two guest presentations by:
Dr. Dan Zollinger, Professor of Civil & Environmental Engineering at Texas A&M University’s Zachary Department of Civil & Environmental Engineering. Dr. Zollinger will present his approach for real-time control of curing application. Dr. Zollinger has developed an instrumentation process that allows feedback to a contractor for timing and application rates for curing, based on real-time conditions.
Dr. Omar Swei, Assistant Professor, Department of Civil Engineering at the University of British Columbia/Vancouver (UBC), Department of Civil Engineering. He will discuss how productivity defines how efficiently firms and industries take “inputs” and turn them into “outputs.” Recently, ACPA was approached by UBC to do a productivity study on the concrete paving industry. UBC is working with the Brookings Institute, the US Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS), and others to research highway construction productivity. Researchers would like to interview and survey concrete paving contractors to help determine what drives productivity in concrete paving, and how it is measured at the national level by BLS, FHWA and others. One goal of the study is to create a report for DOTs and FHWA to detail how current agency practices impact contractor productivity and costs.
All members, chapters, and others are welcome to tune in to learn how you can be part of this study and better position concrete paving productivity. There is no cost for participating in this web-based meeting, but you must register in advance. Click here to register for the event.
