It’s been nearly two months since I’ve taken over the reins of ACPA. Thanks to all of you who have been so generous with your time and helped educate me on the nuances of the industry. One of the things that have stood out to me the most is the wealth of knowledge, talent, and understanding of technical expertise that our members and staff have. Our Association is overflowing with engineering excellence. It’s always helpful to know when I enter into a conversation with other industry partners or stakeholders that I have the support of such knowledgeable and experienced professionals.

This week we’ll start the process of highlighting some examples of engineering and concrete paving excellence when we notify the winners of our 2021 Excellence in Concrete Paving Awards. This year, 27 projects will be honored from 15 categories after competing locally and nationally with hundreds of amazing projects. While the level of award won’t be announced until December at our Annual Meeting (if you haven’t registered yet for the annual conference, you can do so here), the list of award winners is published in today’s newsletter. On behalf of the panel of judges, I’d like to thank all of you who nominated projects for consideration.  Congratulations on your hard work contributions to your communities.

In addition to the award winners, we’ve got a great issue this week with a recap of the REDAC meeting, the RT&I committee meeting, and an overview of my recent presentation to the ACPA and PCA joint webinar.

In the weeks to come, as Congress returns to Washington, DC, we’ll renew our focus on the Infrastructure, Investment and Jobs Act (IIJA) and make our final push towards what will hopefully be the passage of this landmark investment in concrete infrastructure.
