Asset management refers to how Departments of Transportation (DOTs) budget and plan for roadway improvements.
DOTs need to ensure their asset management is cost-effective. Ideally, DOTs strike a balance between minor and major improvements. This is what is known as a “mix of fixes”.
This approach allows the DOTs to adapt to the future needs of their road network to ensure that all funding invested pays off. ACPA Research Partners have shown that a mix of fixes approach can achieve the same level of road quality for tens of millions of dollars less.
