Last week, ACPA formally submitted comments on a Federal Acquisition Regulation (FAR) proposed rule change on greenhouse gas emissions within DoD, GSA, and NASA. This Proposed Rule would require federal contractors to publicly disclose greenhouse gas emissions and other risks and set science-based targets to lower these emissions. ACPA’s comments acknowledge current climate mitigating efforts from the industry as well as the impacts that this would inevitably have on the industry moving forward.
In the comments, ACPA also asked questions on feasibility of this tracking, accountability, and risk. Additionally, ACPA expanded on the work related to EPDs and the misalignment this change would create amongst other industries, encouraging the council to consider alternatives such as EPDs, LCA and carbon reducing materials, saying “Our industry is proactively reducing our carbon footprint and GHG emissions. Simply adding a complex layer to collect the questionably useful data proposed would frustrate the industry’s trajectory toward carbon neutrality.”
