FAA Specification Updates
Presenters: Gary Mitchell, ACPA and Harold Honey, FAA
In today’s challenging environment, the FAA is needing to update its airfield pavement construction specifications to meet the ongoing changes the cement and concrete industry are making to address carbon reduction. New materials and construction processes to meet some of the next generation challenges are constantly being developed. As a result, the FAA must incorporate these material and process changes into their construction specifications. FAA Headquarters Senior Pavement Engineer, Harold Honey, will discuss the triggers that may lead to an FAA guide publication update, describe how products are approved, explain the phases an updated publication undergoes, and describe when FAA standards must be used. ACPA Chief Engineer Gary Mitchell will follow with a discussion to help airfield engineers understand the background of FAA Engineering Brief (EB-106), which changes the way cement is specified for airfield construction. Mitchell will also explain how to incorporate the revised language into the FAA Specifications.
