The FHWA Mobile Concrete Technology Center (MCTC) came to New York City on May 10, 2022. Mike Praul, Jagan Gudimettla, and the MCTC crew from FHWA provided an informative and interactive demonstration of modern concrete pavement testing equipment and techniques. The morning session included presentations on Performance Engineered Mixture (PEM) Concepts and Technologies by Praul and Gudimettla of FHWA. Gordon Smith of the CP Tech Center presented on PEM Origins, Status, and Future Directions. Nick Davis from the New York State Department of Transportation (NYSDOT) gave an update on NYSDOT’s Goals and Experiences with PEM.

In the afternoon, guests watched live demonstrations of PEM tests, explored new technologies for identifying pavement thickness and dowel bar locations, and were guided through the FHWA MCTC, aka the “Mobile Lab.” More than 80 attendees joined the event from groups such as NYSDOT, FHWA, New York City Department of Design and Construction (DDC), the Port Authority of New York/New Jersey, as well as from contractor, cement, admixture, testing labs, and engineering companies.
