In The Mix: A Message from President & CEO Laura O’Neill Kaumo
We are still 50 days away from Thanksgiving, but because I have so much to give thanks for after a long week of travel, it feels like Turkey Day already! Thank you to CPAM for hosting the ACPA National team at their Board meeting – I enjoyed learning more about their successes and meeting with their dedicated members (also, if you’ve never had a Juicy Lucy, I’d highly recommend)!
Thank you to the Illinois Chapter, who made time to connect with me in ACPA’s home office to strategize about market growth. Thank you to NRMCA for hosting a great ConcreteWorks conference where I was able to connect with a number of our valued cement supplier members, including Buzzi, Continental, St. Mary’s, Lafarge, Cemex, Lehigh, CRH, and many other friends and state partners including IA, ND, Northeastern, and Northwestern. They help make ACPA a strong voice for the concrete paving industry!
One thing that I’m not as thankful for is the politics surrounding the Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act (IIJA). To put it simply, right now, the path to the bill becoming a law is about as clear as concrete. You can read more about it where it currently stands in the Government Affairs Update below. We all remain optimistic that a compromise can be achieved and we’ll be able to celebrate its passage together in Huntington Beach. Unfortunately, right now, it’s anyone’s guess how this plays out.
This week, several of us will head out to Arizona for the Arizona Roads and Streets Conference hosted by ACEC/AZ. In addition to ACPA exhibiting at the trade show, Larry Scofield will be leading our team as we discuss the benefits of concrete paving with key audiences of contractors, suppliers, and municipal decision-makers. I’m sure we’ll also be hearing more about the findings of a recently released City of Phoenix/Arizona State University study on the impact of lighter colored concrete on surface temperatures.
In this week’s newsletter, we’ll look ahead to next week’s Tech Tuesday Webinar with the CP Tech Center on the properties that maximize concrete pavement life; give more information about an RFP for Rapid Repair, Rehabilitation and Reconstruction of Concrete Airport Pavements; provide a recap of the 12th International Conference on Concrete Pavements; and share some highlights of Eric’s webinar on PavementDesigner.org
