The 2021 Virginia Concrete Conference was held last Thursday and Friday. The virtual conference, whose theme was, “Concrete: A Proven Solution,” began with welcoming remarks by Roger Faulkner of the Southeast Cement Promotion Association, followed by opening remarks by Virginia DOT Commissioner Stephen Brich and Virginia Secretary of Transportation Shannon Valentine.

Among the technical presentations was one by Dave Sciullo, Golden Triangle Construction and current Chair of the Pennsylvania Chapter, ACPA. He presented on a West Virginia Unbonded Overlay Project. Dr. Jeremy Gregory of MIT’s Concrete Sustainability Hub, along with James Gillespie of the Virginia Transportation Council presented on the effects of market concentration & competition in the paving sector.

Melissa Love Campbell of the Southeast Chapter presented on the Georgia & South Carolina Bonded Concrete Intersection experience and Sam Tyson of the FHWA presented on the Every Day Counts Initiative on concrete overlays. The conference drew 680 participants, according to Ray Seipp, who participated in the event.
