Shailen Bhatt, nominated by President Biden on July 21 to be the Administrator of the Federal Highway Administration, is testifying today in front of the Senate Environment and Public Works Committee. The FHWA has been without a permanent administrator for almost two years and is currently led by acting Administrator Pollack. Bhatt spoke about the need for resilient transportation infrastructure in the face of climate change challenges experienced all over the country.

The Committee is expected to recommend his appointment to the full Senate, and the White House, along with AASHTO, is urging speedy confirmation of Bhatt. He previously served as the head of the Colorado and Delaware departments of transportation. Further action on Bhatt’s nomination is not expected until October after written questions from Senators have been submitted and answered.
