ACPA Provides Guest Lecture at the Air Force Institute of Technology Civil Engineer School
Last week, ACPA Chief Engineer Gary Mitchell, P.E., gave a guest lecture at the Air Force Institute of Technology’s (AFIT) Civil Engineering School. Speaking to 18 students in AFIT’s WENG 550 Pavement Design Course, Mitchell shared his expertise on a variety of concrete pavement design and construction elements. “We have been participating as a guest lecturer for this course since 2010, providing the students an opportunity to engage with the concrete pavement industry’s perspective on jointing and other paving details,” said Mitchell. ACPA participates in WENG 550 twice a year during the two course offerings. The students are from the military and civilian engineering firms that provide design and construction management for military projects. “We first developed a relationship with FAA Senior Paving Engineer Harold Honey when he was a former AFIT WENG 550 Course Director. Our participation with the Air Force in providing this lecture has opened many doors and fostered many relationships over the years,” noted Mitchell. Many of the courses students and course directors go on to work in the concrete pavement industry.
