The American Highway Users Association held a virtual meeting yesterday, bringing together industry representatives (including ACPA) with staff of the T&I Committee Majority Members.

Based on the discussion, it is clear that T&I majority is excited about moving forward and that HR2 (Investing in a New Vision for the Environment and Surface Transportation in America Act or the INVEST in America Act) that the House passed last summer will be the starting point for their efforts on a highway bill in this Congress. Of course, House T&I members and staff will be working with their counterparts on the Senate side with an eye toward something they can get through both chambers. Timing is less clear as discussions with the incoming Biden administration have not really started yet, and there are new members on the various committees as well that will want to provide input to the process. Staff are hopeful we will see something in the spring.

ACPA’s Leif Wathne co-chairs the Highway Users’ Policy and Government Affairs Committee.
